One on One Counselling

one on one counsellingWMRCC of Durham  provides the community with many programs and services with great outcomes. We know that support is crucial and essential in the lives of women, youth and children who experienced or are survivors of violence and abuse. The agency is working tirelessly to ensure that women, children and youth we serve live free of violence and abuse. We want our service users to know that even when they feel hopeless, disrespected and devalued they can still find hope through support, encouragement, validation and empowerment. In our work with women, we are seeing that the women who have support in their lives, are the ones who have really great outcomes.

Our counselling model is based on integrated anti-racist,  anti-oppression and feminist analysis, a holistic approach in which a person’s experience and realities of life are not fragmented and divided. In this counselling model we do not only deal with issues of violence in someone’s life, there are other factors that need consideration such as race, gender, nationality, age, sexual preference, disability, class, income status, geographical region, immigration status, language, educational level, cultural practices and religion.

Testimonies from WMRCC Clients

It feels so good to have someone to talk to; someone who understands the issue and sensitive to my feelings. I am always looking forward to coming to my counselling session every week!

Today I hesitated quite a bit before coming to this session. I contemplated cancelling the appointment but here I am leaving a different individual from the one who walked in. I feel so much lighter after my session. These counselling sessions present an opportunity to feel free and clear my mind of negative and other thoughts of hopelessness.

This agency was there for me in the early nineties when majority of the community did not know how to deal with a Muslim woman like me, for that I will always be grateful.
