Worker Cooperative Development Project

The social media and mobile technologies have accelerated the rate at which relationship is developed, information is shared, and influence takes hold. It has revolutionized the socio-economic dynamics as well; people are more empowered than ever before.

Can this power be harnessed by workers to their benefits?

It is possible by building worker cooperatives; selling services directly to end users, and eliminating the brokers and agencies in between.

The Co-operative Corporation Act now offers an improvement for coops to make use of this social media and mobile technologies in their operations. Cooperatives, with some exceptions, now have the option of holding members meetings using electronic means such as teleconferencing, web conferencing, or emails. This change should make it easier for cooperatives with lots of members of members over a great geographic distance to have a higher degree of participation at their members meetings.

Testimonies from WMRCC Clients

It feels so good to have someone to talk to; someone who understands the issue and sensitive to my feelings. I am always looking forward to coming to my counselling session every week!

Today I hesitated quite a bit before coming to this session. I contemplated cancelling the appointment but here I am leaving a different individual from the one who walked in. I feel so much lighter after my session. These counselling sessions present an opportunity to feel free and clear my mind of negative and other thoughts of hopelessness.

This agency was there for me in the early nineties when majority of the community did not know how to deal with a Muslim woman like me, for that I will always be grateful.
