HER Power: About
HER POWER: CREATING LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN LIVING WITH DISABILITIES
ABOUT HER POWER PROJECT:
Through this 33-month systemic change project, Women’s Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre of Durham (WMRCC) will help advance women’s economic security and prosperity through systemic change.
Specifically, the project will increase leadership and economic advancement opportunities for women with disabilities by improving employers’ understanding and implementation of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies and practices.
1) Conduct a needs assessment and gather data on the barriers faced by women with disabilities in Durham and the GTA;
2) Implement a networking and mentorship program designed to advance leadership
opportunities for women with disabilities;
3) Establish a network of male allies through community dialogues and consultations; and
4) Deliver Inclusion Diversity Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) training informed by a feminist disability perspective to organizations in Durham and the GTA.
We are thankful to our funders the Ministry of Women And Gender Equality (WAGE) Canada.

Testimonies from WMRCC Clients
It feels so good to have someone to talk to; someone who understands the issue and sensitive to my feelings. I am always looking forward to coming to my counselling session every week!
Today I hesitated quite a bit before coming to this session. I contemplated cancelling the appointment but here I am leaving a different individual from the one who walked in. I feel so much lighter after my session. These counselling sessions present an opportunity to feel free and clear my mind of negative and other thoughts of hopelessness.
This agency was there for me in the early nineties when majority of the community did not know how to deal with a Muslim woman like me, for that I will always be grateful.
